"Satellite speaker" is a term for small typically wall mountable speakers like Bose. They typically have a small 2-3" cone and very limited frequency range. I.e., you need a subwoofer or subwoofer-base unit.

Compare to…

"Monitor speaker" or "bookshelf speaker" are stand mounted speakers usually having 2 drivers: usually a 5 to 6.5" mid-bass and tweeter. These will usually go down to the 45-60 Hz frequency range.

"Floorstanding speakers" are the full-sized cabinets and usually extend down to the 20-30 Hz range.
