u get 1080p upscaling with hdmi. u also get full native 1080p hd video from blu rays, at their best.
it is also updatable, sony regularly update their firmware, meaning thers a good chance u get all the latest blu ray options.
ps3 is also a media centre, where u can share all your photos, HD videos and music from ur computer. so basicly, u can set up your ps3 to access any folder in ur computer e.g my music, and it will come up on the xmb.

Actually if you look up on Samsungs site it up scales to 720P or 1080i not p, I own one of this DVD’s I got the Samung HD870 which allows me to watch 576P which is standard DVD in Australia or 720p or 1080i & I can barely tell the difference.

Yeah but blu ray insnt just better for the picture it also allows much more to be stored on a disc and allows for clearer sound. So yeah thats good it is cheaper but it still isnt as good as blu ray, one reason is that blu ray players can play alot of those features too. Not to mention it would be a stupid move saying before long they wont even make dvds anymore but you can still play your old ones on your blu ray drive.

up conversion is B.S. It just fills in certain areas with extra color. There is no real “High Definition” coming from that player. A blu-ray player would do just about the same thing and you can watch certain movies in true HD.
