How do I get my surround sound dvd player to play the tv (cable) sound through the system?

The dvd plays through all 5 speakers but the cable only plays through the tv
Please feel free to dumb it down for me. Thanks.

If your surround sound dvd player has an aux option like my rca does then hookup up your audio cable in the back of your dvd player/receiver (red and white) to your tv set (audio out) if your tv has one like my hd lcd tv does. then choose your cable option on yoru tv and hopefully this helps.

You need a receiver of some sort to have a main control for all your different units (TV, DVD, Game Systems, etc.) Connect all the different equipment to the receiver and then output the receiver to the surround sound speakers. You’ll use different inputs to cycle between the TV, DVD, PS3, etc. when you want to hear them.

Hope this helps!

hook your cable box up to the receiver with an optical audio cable

I think you just connect the cable box to your receiver. and if you do this then the receiver has to be on for the cable to played on all the speakers. I think you have a receiver like mine in that it is a DVD Player/Receiver.
