If I understand you correctly, You have a surround system and a receiver and the Surround system is indepnedent ( powers its own surround speakers). You can connect it to the Receiver but you most likely wont get the surround sound you want because the Surround Sound system is designed to do all the processing. It probably doesnt have an Optical or Coaxial out audio output. That would be the only way uou could do what you wanted.
References :
I have reviewed several HT Surround sound systems and only a few have an actual audio output.

Don't know your exact setup but generally the DVD sound out goes to a seperate amplifier which drives the speakers. So the answer is yes a DVD player connected to an amp which is connected to the speakers should be just fine. Some speaker systems have the amp builtinto them, if that is the case then any DVD should work just fine.
References :
Chet

The previous responder obviously missed the January 2008 issue of "Home Theater" magazine, which discusses exactly the kind of gear you're looking for.

The magazine reviewed and gave excellent marks to the KEF Universal Wireless Speaker Kit ($600). Similar (but unreviewed) products include the Rocketfish RF-WHTIB Wireless Rear Speaker Kit ($100), the Kenwood RFU-6100 Wireless Amplifier ($300), and the Amphony Model 1550 Digital Wireless Audio Transmitter/Amplifier ($200).
References :
http://www.kef.com

Currently this isn't possible, they don't make a device to do this though I think they could if there was a demand for it. You may just need to spend the money and buy a wireless speaker system.. As an alternative you can buy this flat speaker wire so you can hide it easier then normal wire. This is just one example of many they sell here, but check it out..

I don't see why not. If your DVD system doesn't have inputs, then you may have to get a stand-alone receiver and a blu-ray player. But the prices are so low now, they're affordable enough for most people.

Enjoy!
References :
You'll have a hard time finding good quality speakers that are wireless. If you put out the money to get a projector, why not for speakers as well, or to have them installed where the wires are hidden - i.e. through the walls, attic, under carpet, under crawl space, etc. If you're concerned about not seeing wires, there are plenty of ways around this issue. Then you can get some nice speakers to go with your projector. Good luck!
References :
You cant.

Your el-cheepo Panasonic box is really 2 devices:

- A DVD player
- A low-end 5.1 amplifier

Without the amplifier - you cannot drive speakers.

This is a kit system which is not really designed to let you swap out parts. (The $299 price tag was cheep, but expandability was one of the things you gave up for the low price).

The speakers - are also sometimes 3 ohms - close to a short but designed to work with that box and only that box. It could damage other amps to hook those speakers up. (Check the speakers to see if they say 3 ohms, 4 ohms,...) Anything above 6 ohms is safe to hook up to another receiver.
